Valentine 2008 - New Bath Hotel - Matlock Bath - Derbyshire

If Bonnie Prince Charlie’s army had gone a few miles beyond Derby, he could have put up at the New Bath Hotel near Matlock. In the 19th century this part of the country was known as the English Switzerland - and the Peak District is every bit as pretty. Walking in the national park around Matlock is gorgeous. And visit nearby Chatsworth House they have so many treasures, they’ve hung Rembrandts on back staircases in the past! Honestly.

The hotel has an Olympic sized outdoor swimming pool which is open from May until October, and an 18th century natural spa which bubbles up from the earth and is theraputic. There’s a first class sauna, and a tennis court too. All free to you when you stay. There are magnificent gardens and first class conference and banqueting facilities. If you fancy a four poster or a canopied half-tester room, those are on offer too. They knew how to live in those far off days. There’s also a very popular restaurant called the Lamp and Seam which you really ought to consider. Lovely spot.
